The other day after our date we walked through Kahala mall and stopped at one of those Whole Food stores to have a look. I've never been in one before and as soon as I stepped inside it was like a Whole New World. It was like everyone there belonged to a special club for exclusive people who were way too exclusive to eat non-special food from a non-exclusive store. I mean, there was some pretty good looking food there, and I'm sure it tasted great, and was maybe, possibly, a little healthier being organic and all, but the prices were also pretty exclusive and I'm not 100% convinced that ALL the food is proven to be better for you.
And then we walked next door and bought a huMONGous cinnamon roll from Cinnabon. My first ever.
There were a lot of firsts that day. It was a big day. Hence the blog entry.
It also reminded me that the Prophet said to plant a garden. And how much I should do that. Except I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment with zero grass outside and a No Gardening policy on our patios.
I guess I need to be more creative.
Also, lately, I have been considering how much Ka'ihi has developed and how much he surprises me.
At this age, 15 months, he is chatting, mimicking words, walking backwards (and forwards of course), plays the ukulele upright, singing, dancing (stamping his feet and clapping and turning), climbing, exploring everywhere and everything he possibly can and obeying (most of the time) simple instructions in English and Hawaiian. It's like I can see the wheels turning in his head.
Doctors say that by the time a child is 3 years old, they will have formed about 1,000 trillion connections in their brain, twice as many as an adult. The majority of development is done in the first 6 years. I cannot believe how much Ka'ihi has learnt already in his short life, and it's so exciting (and sobering) to see that and know we are influencing his mind, and the person he will become.
I love his spirit. He is so full of life and always so happy. He is confident and patient. I am always thankful for his easy going attitude, and the way he doesn't really fuss whether we're at home or running errands or sitting in class or visiting friends and family. I've noticed too that even when it's just him and I at home, and I have to clean or get ready, he is quite happy to entertain himself for a while with toys or books or puzzles or playing with pillows or whatever is lying around.
I can't believe how awesome he his and I'm grateful for every day. I love this kid.
i think he's pretty awesome too. :) and you're so on it to record just what he's doing at his age! i totally agree that the way they develop is amazing. but of course, since he is my nephew i think he's leaps and bounds ahead of the other little tykes his age ;)
