Yay, we're Hoku award winners! Well technically Gary is but as he said, the award is given for not only the composition but the performance and interpretation as well.
We had a really great time at the awards. The food was average but it was an exciting atmosphere and we were so grateful that they at least won something! That we didn't come away empty handed. And the guys were glad it was for Haku Mele, especially since it was the song Gary wrote for his dad who passed away from cancer last year. So it was very special for him.
Ka'ihi was so so good. He slept for the first few hours and even when he was woken up by the drum-thrashing group performing before Hi'ikua, he wasn't fussy at all and enjoyed sitting and listening to the music and being entertained by Gary's kids. Everyone thought he was so adorable esp dressed in his little dress pants and vest. He was awesome.
And, he didn't wet his diapers all day long! Even at church, while he was sleeping, at the awards or during the night, I kept reminding him he had a diaper on and could shishi but he insisted on using the toilet. I was so impressed!
We're exhausted now but every time we see that award in our house we're excited. It's been a long road to this point but it means a breakthrough for the group - now they are on the radar and can really get their name out there.
Although I secretly hope this doesn't turn into more travelling gigs. Otherwise we may have to buy a bus and become groupies.
Famous at Foodland Beretania!
