Ok so we've been in our new place for about four weeks now, and we LOVE it. It's bigger, brighter, breezier and generally all-round better! Here's our pro's:
secure building
PARKING!
visitor parking
a no-nonsense resident manager who we really like
bathtub
walking distance to Walmart, Ross, 24 hour fitness, church, district pool, kids playground...
cheaper laundry (like half the price we were used to)
the only real downside is that we pay for electricity. Which, we have now realized, is pretty expensive here. Even with all our efforts to be frugal, our bill for this month was $108! I hope that's not normal. I almost cried. We unplug EVERYTHING when it's not in use, we only use one fan during the night, we try to conserve anyway we can, and it was still $108. We're talking to our RM about our freezer door (which pops open everytime you close the fridge) and our water heater (which currently does not heat enough water to fill a bath). So fingers crossed that makes a difference.
We're really grateful to everyone who helped us move. We could never have done it without their help. We got back from Utah on Wednesday, packed Thursday, moved Friday, gave the keys to the old house back Saturday. It was insane. The only way we got through it was with everyone helping, especially taking care of Ka'ihi! So thank you.
Along with a new place we've made a few other changes too. One, the trying-to-save-money thing, and two, living a healthier lifestyle. We've been walking a lot more, getting to bed earlier and waking up earlier, cutting the cable to the TV, eating out WAY less, eating more fruit and salad and less red meat and rice. Kamuela now eats breakfast every day and takes a packed lunch to work! These are big steps for us. And it hasn't really been hard, in fact we all enjoy it.
I used to loathe the idea of being the wife who made all the meals and even packed her husband's lunch and did all the housework and took responsibility for the shopping and food, (picture a scarf around my head and "Stepford Wives" uniform) but I must confess I find myself liking it all. I guess the Lord really knew what He was talking about when He said "you will need to give much of your time and interests to the rearing of your children and the care of your husband. Do these things with a glad heart for the greatest satisfaction and happiness that will come to you in life will be through your family" in my Patriarchal Blessing.
I'm glad He's not a "I told you so" type of person.
YAY!! A new blog post! and a GREAT ONE at that! Your new lifestyle sounds wonderful -- each and every step.
ReplyDeleteAs for the electric bill, I know, it's awful... We try so hard to be frugal, too, and our bill this month (to be split) was OVER $600!! for ONE MONTH! GAG!!!
Anyway, love your blog, love the pictures, love your little family! XOXO
